To the batch of 2004,
All of you are invited to the coming Alumni AGM. It concerns you since all of you will be graduating by the end of the year. I would like to pass down most of the alumni matters to other ppl and i hope some of you can help me undertake. The most important thing now is to elect a batch rep to do the future contacting of any updates. The other roles are voluntary and i think some of you can suit the roles well.

For the ladies, i heard that all of you wanna continue rowing dboat so gather yourselves. The batches before kinda stopped after they graduated and its hard to get them to come back. So if all of you wanna continue, consider this.

Details of the AGM will be on the alumni website. Time for all of you to get to know the grandseniors and DUN BE SHY... i will be there...

a gentle reminder

the seniors who went down to row today would like to take the opportunity to emphasize a few salient points.

care of boats

the boats do not belong to us. they belong to the school. every item of equipment has been lovingly taken care of by generations of seniors so that future teams may use them. some boats such as athena, have been around since 1990s. new boats cost anywhere from $2000-4000. new paddles cost at least $400. any considerate rower, whether junior, senior or alumni, would want to keep the boat in good condition, if not excellent. just because some schools treat their boats as dispensible does not mean that the ac rower should follow suit.

the boat is one of the canoeist's most important assets. it is for rowing in. it is what the canoeist sits in during competition and training. how the canoeist treats his or her boat ideally, would be the same way a soldier treats his m-16. your boat is your wife/husband. take care of the boat. this means

  • seats should not be left screwed to the boat when the boat is not in use. should the seat fall when the boat is in the rack, the seat and the boats below will sustain damage. it is also hard to wash the boat properly with the seat on. please take action with especial reference to a certain k2.
  • washing a boat clean should mean that no sand or salt should remain in the boat. not only does shoddy washing make the boat dirty for the next user, too much salt will cause shrinkage and warp the boat. please wash the insides properly.
  • the same goes for seats. while small twigs might be excusable, mud on the seat is not.
  • if possible, the screws for the footrest should also be loosened when the boat is not in use. the boat expands and contracts in the heat of the day even in the shed. leaving the screws tight when the boat is not being used might damage the footrest.

thank you.
